Crystal Wagar is an Of Counsel attorney to Llorente & Heckler, PA law firm.
Crystal is a well-respected attorney and advocate. She has a wide-range of experience in both the public and private sector. Crystal’s public sector experience includes general counsel for the Black Economic Development Corporation, interim city manager for the Village of El Portal, and chief policy aide and chief of staff to a Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jimmy Morales.
In the private sector, Wagar worked at two prominent South Florida law firms prior to opening her own boutique advocacy firm, the Connor Group Miami.
As president of the Connor Group, Crystal focused on assisting clients with matters related to:
- public procurements & government contracting
- land development such as: permitting, zoning and land use approval
- regulatory approval
- legislative and budget appropriations
In late 2013, Crystal moved to Singapore where she spent nearly four years representing the United States in her role as spouse to the United States Ambassador.
Crystal has achieved a lot in her personal life as well. In April of 2019, Crystal was elected as Mayor of Miami Shores. She also made history as the first African American woman ever elected in the Village’s 89-year existence. Crystal graduated from Temple University and received her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law. Wagar is a current member of the national African American Mayors Association (AAMA).
Crystal has worked just as diligently at giving back to her community, as she continuously maintains a strong philanthropic foundation. Crystal served as Board Secretary of Camillus House, Chaired the Board of Directors of the Good Government Initiative, and was a member of the South Florida National Parks Trust Board. She is also an alumnus of the Miami Fellows Initiative and the United States German Marshall Fellowship. Crystal was named one of South Florida’s 50 most powerful and influential black business leaders of 2012, received the Thurgood Marshall Distinguished Young Leader Award, the South Florida Women Extraordinaire Award and named a Miracle Maker by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami. Crystal is currently on the Board of Miami Children’s Museum.
Crystal lives in the Village of Miami Shores with her husband Kirk and adorable daughters, Rhys (6) and Avery (3). Aside from just spending quality time together, the Wagar’s enjoy traveling the world. They are currently planning their next family adventure. Stay tuned!
